As Zelensky stated, Russia currently has 220 combat brigades, while Ukraine has half that number. "Well, that means we will also need 220," concluded the Ukrainian president. According to him, Ukraine's membership in NATO would be the "cheapest option" for ensuring the country's security. "We trust NATO, we trust [its] guarantees," – emphasized the Ukrainian leader. At the same time, he noted that "today's America and Trump are not ready to discuss Ukraine's NATO membership because it would escalate tensions with the Russians."
Previously, Zelensky had already spoken about the necessity of doubling the size of the Ukrainian army if the country is not accepted into NATO or if Kyiv does not receive guarantees from the North Atlantic alliance.
