A Stockholm resident attempted to drive through the gates of the Russian embassy.

The incident occurred early in the morning on January 28. The police received a report at 06:54 local time. The detained individual is 45 years old. When the police arrived at the scene, he remained inside the vehicle, which is why, as noted, he was quickly apprehended.

A preliminary investigation has been initiated regarding the attempted break-in. A police spokesperson stated that the motive for his actions has not yet been established, and there was nothing suspicious in the car.

At the Russian embassy, they claim that a "permanently residing citizen of Ukraine in Sweden" attempted to "ram the gates" of the embassy, and no significant damage was inflicted on the embassy.

"In 2015 and 2018, he had already attacked the embassy and the trade representative office of Russia in Sweden, and was deemed mentally unfit, being sent by Swedish authorities for appropriate treatment," the Russian diplomatic mission stated.

In November 2024, an unidentified drone flew over the Russian embassy in Stockholm and dropped paint onto the grounds of the complex.
