Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have reached a divorce settlement.

Jolie's lawyer, James Simon, confirmed to the Associated Press that the couple has reached an agreement.

The court documents have not yet been filed, and the agreement must be approved by a judge. Pitt's attorney did not respond to a request for comment.

49-year-old Jolie and 61-year-old Pitt were one of Hollywood's most prominent couples for 12 years, two of which were as a married couple. They have six children together.

Jolie filed for divorce in 2016 after a private flight from Europe, during which she alleged that Pitt had been abusive towards her and their children. The FBI and the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services conducted an investigation but concluded that no action was necessary against Pitt.

In 2019, a judge declared them divorced, but the issues of property division and child custody were to be resolved separately.

During the lengthy divorce proceedings, four of the couple's six children reached adulthood, eliminating the need for a custody agreement.

In a 2017 interview with GQ, Pitt stated that he had alcohol problems during the incident on the plane and the separation, but he has since stopped drinking and undergone therapy. He did not excuse his behavior on the plane.

Jolie has also refrained from making public statements about family issues or the divorce, although she has sought greater scrutiny and publicity regarding Pitt's behavior in court.
