Sources speaking to the agency on the condition of anonymity noted that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan discussed this topic with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov during separate meetings in Ankara in early February.
Previously, U.S. President Donald Trump, who is eager to establish contacts with Russia, including through peace efforts to end the war in Ukraine, stated that he would support the involvement of European allies in peacekeeping forces and provide security guarantees for Ukraine, while simultaneously excluding a direct role for the U.S. itself in this matter.
