The current Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, announced that his country will also impose a 25% tariff on American goods. This includes food products, alcoholic beverages, clothing and footwear, household appliances, furniture, lumber, and raw materials. Trudeau estimated the total volume of imports subject to tariffs at $155 billion. During a press conference, Trudeau described the trade relationship between the U.S. and Canada as "the most successful in the world" and stated that this cooperation will continue despite the upcoming "difficult times." He also urged Canadians to purchase domestic products and take vacations within Canada instead of in the U.S.
The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, also announced retaliatory measures. On social media platform X, she wrote that she has instructed the Minister of Economy to "implement Plan B, which will include tariff and non-tariff measures to protect Mexico's interests." She did not disclose details of the plan.
In response to the American tariffs, China stated that it intends to file a protest with the World Trade Organization. Chinese authorities also mentioned that they will develop countermeasures, but did not provide details.
