Musk spoke at a campaign event for the Alternative for Germany (AfD).

Маск выступил на предвыборном событии партии АдГ.

The event took place in Halle on Saturday, January 25, marking the official kickoff of the party's campaign for the Bundestag. According to Welt, around 4,500 supporters of the AfD attended Musk's speech.

Musk expressed to the audience his approval of their pride in belonging to German culture: "We want cultures around the world to be different." He criticized the German government, labeling it as indifferent to the well-being of the people and accusing it of suppressing freedom of speech.

He urged the attendees to "fight, fight, fight" for "a great future for Germany" and stated that they "should not be held accountable for the mistakes of their parents or even great-grandparents" and should not be "overly concerned with historical guilt."

Ahead of the early elections for the Bundestag, the "Alternative for Germany" party is projected to receive about 20 percent of the voter support, according to pre-election polls by Politico. The party's recent successes challenge the taboo surrounding far-right movements in Germany that has existed since World War II.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz condemned Musk's support for the AfD as "absolutely unacceptable." "He supports the far-right across Europe, in Britain, in Germany, and in many, many other countries, and this is completely unacceptable... it jeopardizes the democratic development of Europe, it threatens our community," the head of government is quoted by AP.

Massive demonstrations against the AfD and the far-right took place in Halle and several other cities across Germany on Saturday. In Berlin, reports DW, the demonstration gathered 100,000 people according to organizers and 35,000 according to police estimates.
