The Los Angeles County Sheriff reported that an additional 23,000 people have received warnings about possible evacuation.
The new fire has been named "Hughes." Within just a few hours, it spread over an area comparable to 66% of the territory affected by another devastating fire, "Eaton," in the Los Angeles area.
The region around Castaic Lake, where the new fire has erupted, is primarily covered with shrubs and pastures, with some forested areas.
More than four thousand firefighters have been deployed to combat the blaze. They are attempting to extinguish the fire from the air by scooping water from the lake with helicopters. As of now, the "Hughes" fire has not been contained, according to Los Angeles County Fire Chief Anthony Marrone. The region continues to experience dry, windy weather, making firefighting efforts challenging. However, light rain is forecast for the weekend, which may aid in controlling the flames.
