The app stopped loading in the USA on Saturday evening, just a few hours before the ban took effect. Additionally, Google Play and Apple Store removed the option for American users to install it.
Earlier, the US Supreme Court refused to overturn the law that allows for a ban on TikTok unless the social network is separated from the Chinese company ByteDance. The document comes into effect on January 19, one day before Donald Trump's inauguration.
Trump promised to "save TikTok," for instance, by negotiating its sale to American buyers. On January 17, Trump held a call with Chinese leader Xi Jinping – among other topics, they discussed TikTok, as reported by the US president-elect without further details.
In an interview with NBC, Trump stated that after his inauguration, he would likely impose a 90-day delay on the law prohibiting TikTok. During this time, the owning company may resolve legal issues to allow Americans to continue using the social network.
In the USA, TikTok has around 170 million subscribers.
