The Rome Prosecutor's Office has initiated an investigation against Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

She is accused of assisting and aiding Osama Anjem, known as Osama al-Masri. According to the Italian Prime Minister, an investigation is underway concerning Justice Minister Carlo Nordio and Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi.

Meloni commented on the allegations: "What was true yesterday is true today: I cannot be blackmailed, and I cannot be intimidated."

The Meloni government has faced criticism from the opposition, human rights organizations, and the International Criminal Court itself for releasing al-Masri on formal grounds after he was arrested in Turin under an ICC warrant.
