Slovak Prime Minister Fico stated he will "prevent" Ukraine from joining NATO.

Премьер Словакии Фицо заявил, что он "не позволит" Украине стать членом НАТО.

Fico spoke on Sunday at the memorial dedicated to the soldiers of the joint Carpathian-Dukla offensive operation of the Soviet and Czechoslovak troops, conducted in these areas 80 years ago, in the autumn of 1944. Tens of thousands of Czechoslovak and Soviet soldiers lost their lives in the battles. Robert Fico's speech is outlined by the Slovak publication Hlavný Denník.

The TV channel "Euronews" quotes a fragment of Fico's speech: "We came to Dukla not to celebrate war, suffering, and death. Yes, I regret that we have such a perverse trend, especially in Europe, where instead of making efforts to stop the clashing of weapons, even in neighboring states, we hear thunderous applause, loud greetings, and see significant material decisions that only encourage war. Figuratively speaking, one could wish that such a missile would strike the fountain in Brussels, so they would understand what the hell is going on."

The American publication Politico in its European edition notes that NATO leaders wish for Ukraine to join the North Atlantic Alliance after the end of the war with Ukraine — to deter further aggressive aspirations of Russia. However, the Politico publication states that Fico's remarks highlight the political difficulties that are likely to arise in moving toward this goal.

On Monday, October 7, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico met in Uzhhorod with Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal. They discussed cooperation in energy security, infrastructure projects, as well as support for the "peace plan" presented by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the summit in Switzerland. This was noted by "Deutsche Welle."

Robert Fico stated that Slovakia "unconditionally" supports Ukraine's accession to the European Union. Bratislava will not hinder integration. "We are cautious when it comes to Ukraine's NATO membership, but in the case of the EU, we are one hundred percent on your side," he emphasized.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal thanked his Slovak counterpart for the willingness to host the "peace formula" meeting in Slovakia. He also confirmed that Ukraine will not extend the contract for the transit of Russian gas at the end of the year. "We understand the acute dependence of some states, particularly Slovakia, on this resource. But we expect a gradual diversification of supplies."

In Uzhhorod, a joint Slovak-Ukrainian declaration was signed to enhance political dialogue, build good-neighborly relations, and support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. As reported by "Ukrainian Truth," the document emphasizes that both countries continue to improve rail communication and modernize border infrastructure.

A protocol on readmission was signed — a mechanism for the return of citizens of Slovakia and Ukraine to their respective states.

The third document is a memorandum of understanding between the ministries of education of Ukraine and Slovakia. It concerns support for Ukrainian students and teachers in Slovakia, contacts between educational institutions, and cooperation in the field of innovation.

The fourth document was a memorandum of cooperation between the agricultural ministries.

Shmyhal spoke about plans to produce 155 mm caliber shells in Slovakia. At the same time, it became known that Slovakia allocated 500,000 euros for Ukraine's energy needs.
