Trump announced that his administration will impose sanctions on Colombia.

Трамп объявил, что его правительство введет санкции в отношении Колумбии.

As Trump stated on the social network Truth, the decision of Colombian President Gustavo Petro to deny landing rights to planes "has jeopardized national security and public order in the United States."

According to Trump, he has ordered the U.S. administration to immediately impose a 25% tariff on all goods imported from Colombia, with the possibility of further increases. Additionally, Trump has directed the introduction of visa sanctions against official representatives of the Colombian government and "their supporters," including their family members. Financial sanctions against Colombia are also to be implemented. "These measures are just the beginning," Trump wrote, emphasizing that he "will not allow the Colombian government to violate its legal obligations" regarding the acceptance of deported citizens from the U.S.

Officially, the U.S. administration has yet to announce the implementation of the measures Trump has proposed. According to the State Department, the United States is Colombia's largest trading partner, and Colombia ranks third in Latin America in terms of trade volume with the U.S.

Earlier, Colombian President Petro, a representative of the left, wrote on the social network X that he had ordered not to accept deportation flights from the U.S. carrying Colombian citizens on board until American authorities begin to treat migrants "with respect and uphold their dignity." He stated that it is not possible to force U.S. authorities to keep people in the country whom they do not want to see, but the deportation process should be organized differently, in a more humane manner.

Following Trump's announcement of tariffs and sanctions, the Colombian president's administration reported on X that the president is prepared to allocate his plane to ensure the flight of deported Colombian citizens from the U.S. to Colombia under dignified conditions. There has been no response from Trump and U.S. representatives regarding this initiative so far.

Since the first day of his presidency on January 20, the Trump administration has launched a large-scale campaign to deport migrants who are in the country without the necessary documentation. This was one of the Republican candidate's campaign promises. The border with Mexico has been closed to asylum seekers, and deportation flights have been organized to transport migrants from the U.S. back to their countries of citizenship. At the same time, several Latin American countries, including Mexico and Brazil, have criticized U.S. authorities' actions. Mexico, like Colombia, has refused to accept deportation flights; however, Trump has not yet mentioned sanctions against that country.
