Uzbek airline Qanot Sharq will reduce the number of flights to Russia.

Узбекская авиакомпания Qanot Sharq уменьшит количество рейсов в Россию.

Some flights to Moscow (Domodedovo Airport) will be suspended from Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara, Namangan, and Fergana, while flights to St. Petersburg (Pulkovo) will be suspended from Samarkand and Namangan. Additionally, it has been noted that from January 22 to March 5, certain flights between Tashkent and Samarkand will be canceled.

Previously, several foreign airlines suspended flights to Russia amid the investigation into the crash of the Azerbaijani Airlines (AZAL) Embraer 190 passenger aircraft. The tragedy near the Kazakh city of Aktau on December 25 resulted in the deaths of 38 people, while 29 survived. AZAL itself suspended flights from Baku to 10 Russian cities, and Kazakhstan's Qazaq Air, Israel's El Al (from Tel Aviv to Moscow), the Arab airline Flydubai (from Dubai to Sochi and Mineralnye Vody), and Turkmenistan Airlines also reduced their operations.

  • The Embraer aircraft of AZAL, which crashed near Aktau, was on a flight from Baku to Grozny but deviated from its course after reportedly coming under fire from Russian air defense systems, according to the main theory. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated that the responsibility for the crash "lies with representatives of the Russian Federation."
  • The Russian authorities have not officially commented on the causes of the crash or their responsibility for the incident. At the same time, President Vladimir Putin apologized to Aliyev for the fact that the airplane incident occurred in Russian airspace, and government representatives acknowledged that when the Azerbaijani plane was approaching Grozny, air defense systems were operational, allegedly repelling an attack by Ukrainian drones.
