In Austria, a Syrian immigrant attacked people with a knife, resulting in the death of a teenager.

The attacker has been arrested. The police are not disclosing his name but report that he is a 23-year-old Syrian national who applied for asylum in Austria.

Austrian Interior Minister Gerhard Karner stated that the assailant was a supporter of the terrorist group "Islamic State," which is recognized as such in many countries worldwide. According to Karner, IS recruited him online. The minister added that he had never drawn police attention before.

The police are treating the incident as a terrorist attack carried out by a radical Islamist. Representatives of Austria's right-wing parties have demanded stricter immigration regulations.
