President Zelensky mentioned that during his conversation with Kellogg, they discussed the situation on the front lines, the issues of returning all Ukrainian prisoners, and finding effective international security guarantees for Ukraine.
“European Truth” writes that Zelensky confirmed to Trump’s special envoy Ukraine’s readiness for a "strong, truly beneficial agreement with the President of the United States on investments and security." In this context, they talked about the previously proposed agreement by Trump regarding the use of Ukrainian mineral resources.
According to media reports, the Trump administration offered Ukraine to provide the U.S. 50% ownership of rare earth minerals; however, President Zelensky, as previously reported, reviewed the document and refused to sign it.
On Thursday, the American news site AXIOS reported that the Trump administration provided Ukraine with an "improved" draft of the mineral agreement after President Zelensky angered President Trump by rejecting the initial proposal. Axios cites a Ukrainian official, an American official, and three sources familiar with the deal.
"The latest version of the draft shows a significant improvement and complies with Ukrainian legislation," said one of the sources.
National Security Advisor Mike Waltz told reporters on Thursday that Zelensky needs to "return to the negotiating table" regarding the mineral resources.
