At a joint press conference with the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, who visited Kyiv on an official trip, Zelensky stated the following: "Who will be at the negotiating table? Russia, Ukraine, and, as I said, the European Union and NATO. Because we see ourselves as part of the security system within these alliances. And in this format, I understand what we can negotiate about."
Furthermore, the head of Ukraine emphasized that he opposes a freeze of the war without a "strong position for Ukraine," as he believes that otherwise, in a few years, Putin will "return and completely destroy Ukraine." By "strong position," Zelensky refers to the provision of security guarantees from NATO and the European Union.
The President of Ukraine also reiterated that Kyiv will never legally recognize the Russian occupation of its territories. "These are our lands, these are our people. Temporarily occupied parts of Ukraine. Undoubtedly, all of this will return. I would very much like the majority to come back through diplomatic means," Zelensky said.
