The Ukrainian Railways (Ukrzaliznytsia) has begun updating its rolling stock by launching the first batch of ten new sleeper cars on the Dnipro-Lviv route. This is just the start of a large-scale modernization program, which plans to deliver an additional 56 cars, bringing the total to 66. This information was reported by "Vidomo".
The cost of one car ranges from 43 to 47 million hryvnias, depending on the configuration and technologies used. Such a significant investment is driven by the need to strengthen railway communication amid the ongoing war and the increasing passenger flow.
The new cars represent a substantial advancement compared to previous models, showcasing a marked improvement in comfort and safety.
The interior finish is crafted using high-quality materials, creating a cozy atmosphere. Passengers on the upper bunks now have individual fold-down tables at their disposal, greatly enhancing convenience during their journeys.
To ensure safety and prevent violations, each car is equipped with a modern four-zone video surveillance system with recording capabilities, providing round-the-clock monitoring.
The lighting system has also been updated: passengers can choose from several lighting modes, adjusting the intensity and color tone to their preferences. For passenger convenience, three USB ports for charging devices are conveniently located in accessible areas.
Special attention has been given to the needs of people with disabilities, particularly those with visual impairments. Special Braille markings have been applied, and all important elements, such as signs and seat numbers, are designed with high contrast.
Additionally, the cars are fitted with soft and comfortable bunks that ensure a restful sleep. The presence of coffee makers allows passengers to enjoy a refreshing drink during their trip, while modern air conditioners create an optimal microclimate at any time of the year.
Vacuum toilets have been installed, offering high hygiene and comfort, functioning independently of the train's movement.
The choice of the Dnipro-Lviv route for the launch of the new cars is not accidental. This route is one of the most in-demand, connecting a major industrial center in eastern Ukraine with the western region.
