The year has come to a close, marked by impressive achievements for Ukrainian athletes on the international stage. The National Olympic Committee of Ukraine (NOC) has summarized the results, identifying the top performers among them. The overall winner in the "Best Athlete of 2024" category is Yaroslav Maguchikh, a gifted track and field athlete from Dnipro, who has conquered the heights of global sports. Yaroslav's journey to the top has not been easy, yet she has overcome all obstacles. Behind her are relentless training sessions that yielded the desired results—titles of Olympic champion at the XXXIII Olympic Games, as well as world record holder and European champion in athletics in high jump.
The NOC of Ukraine conducted a thorough analysis of athletes' achievements at major international competitions in Olympic sports that took place throughout 2024, and the expert commission recognized her as the best among the best.
However, Yaroslav Maguchikh was not the only one recognized this year. The title of "Best Athlete of 2024" went to Oleksandr Khizhniak—Olympic champion in boxing in the weight category up to 80 kg at the XXXIII Olympic Games.
This is a deserving "duet" of athletes, each of whom has achieved outstanding results in their respective sports.
We cannot overlook the coaches who stood behind these remarkable successes. Tatiana Stepanova and Oleksandr Khizhniak Sr. were named "Best Coaches of 2024." Their experience, professionalism, and dedication to their craft played a pivotal role in shaping future champions. They are true mentors, inspiring their charges to new victories.
The award ceremony for the winners of the competition will take place on December 23.
