In the Synelnykove district, the body of a man who fell through the ice yesterday was recovered from the river (PHOTO).

A tragedy occurred in the village of Bohodarivka in the Pokrov community of the Synelnykove district in the Dnipropetrovsk region. On Saturday, February 22, divers discovered a drowned man who had fallen through the ice with a friend the previous day, as reported by "Vydomo," citing the Main Department of the State Emergency Service in Dnipropetrovsk region.

On February 21, two men fell through the ice on the Vovcha River and found themselves in life-threatening danger. One of them, born in 1995, miraculously escaped death thanks to the bravery of a passing teenager who managed to pull him from the icy water to the shore. The second man, born in 1996, disappeared underwater. He was searched for more than a day.

Immediately after the incident, rescuers arrived at the scene. Using a boat, they conducted a search of the river’s waters near the spot where the men fell through the ice. However, despite all efforts, the second man could not be found that day. The air temperature, which was below freezing, and the icy river surface complicated the search. With each passing minute, the chances of finding the man alive rapidly decreased.

After unsuccessful searches on the first day, the rescue-diving operation resumed today. The diving and rescue unit of the Main Department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Dnipropetrovsk region was involved in the search. Nine experienced rescuers, equipped with necessary gear and two units of equipment, began another examination of the underwater area of the river.

More than 800 square meters of the river's underwater area were searched. The body of the deceased man was found at a depth of 5 meters, approximately 20 meters from the shore.

The State Emergency Service once again urges citizens to be sensible and strongly recommends that the population of the region refrain from going onto the ice.
